'Hello, I'm on the Plane!'

by Gary Parsons

It's the end of the day and you're heading back up north, the trains late and the buses are full. When you eventually get on-board, you find you're not the only one who feels the need to call home, letting loved-ones know that you're going to be an hour or two late.

Now, imagine that train or bus journey is going to last for 4 hours, well that's soon going to be the reality of your next plane journey to places such as Turkey thanks to a new service from OnAir.

Mobile phones were once banned on planes due to fears that they interfere with on-board navigation equipment. Infact, 20 incidents of on-board malfunctions linked to mobile phones occurred between January 2000 and August 2005. This problem was looked at by companies Arinc and Telenor back in September 2004 and were able to demonstrate that technical problems can be solved but regulations would need to catch up.

Now the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has given the go ahead for OnAir to implement their mobile service and has no more worries about safety. The first deployment of the service is due by the end of the year and will be launched by Air France and Ryan Air, then followed by other airlines. The service will cost around £1.50 per minute, a similar price to that charged by the majority of the networks if you're not on a roaming scheme.

This is great news for passengers, both travelling for business or for those heading off on their holidays. Before taking advantage of this service it's worth remembering to speak to your network about the many different mobile phone deals they have available, reducing the rate's you'll pay when making or receiving calls.

Livigno Italy Is The Place To Ski Duty Free

by Andrew Regan

France, Austria and Switzerland are some of the most famous ski resorts for British skiers and snowboarders. But these traditional favourites are now also some of the most expensive places to get your snow fix. It's not uncommon to pay 7 Euros or more for an après ski beer in ski bars in Val D'isere or Kitzbuhel - and cheap accommodation can also be hard to find.

Many skiers are looking to Eastern Europe for a cheaper ski trip, but while there are certainly bargains to be found in the Balkans, the resorts tend be less developed than in Western Europe and offer less extensive terrain. So what does the cash strapped skier do?

The answer lies in the not-so-well-known ski resort of Livingo, Italy. Set in the Italian Alps at 1816 m above sea level, Livigno offers extensive skiing without breaking the bank. With 33 lifts and 110km of skiing, the area attracts all levels of snow sports fans. The wide open runs are perfect for beginners to learn and intermediates to progress, and the terrain park and easy back country access will even keep more advanced skiers and snowboarders happy for a week or more.

The town has avoided the rapid building boom of imposing concrete high rise hotels that has blighted some of the more famous ski resorts in Western Europe. Instead, Livigno remains a town with plenty of rustic charm; the traditional wooden chalets and small rural buildings are easy on the eye and add to the natural charm of the surrounds.

But the best thing about Livigno is the price, due to its duty free status which was introduced by the Austro-Hungarian Empire about 160 years ago. It's thought that Livigno's remote nature, which was completely cut off from the rest of the country during the harsh winters, was largely the reason it was made into a tax free haven. And even nowadays, only three roads connect the town with other areas - though improvements in building technology and snow clearance mean that access is no longer a problem.

Perhaps the only downside to Livigno is its slight inaccessibility from major airports. It's around a three hour drive from Bergamo or Innsbruck, but with regular buses to the resort or cheap car hire in Italy readily available, getting to Livigno isn't difficult.

So, with plenty of terrain, easily accessible off piste, a warm Italian reception and prices far cheaper than other resorts in Western Europe, Livigno is one excellent Italian job.

Travel Europe with Low Airfares

by Chris Robertson

Europe has always been a desirable vacation destination. No matter what your interests are, Europe has something to offer. If museums are your thing, France leads that pack, although the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain is a must-see for art aficionados. Italy offers the culinary delights of Tuscany and the unparalleled atmosphere of the Grand Canal in Venice. Switzerland, Italy, and France provide winter sports enthusiasts with the best in Alpine skiing. To travel Europe is to travel in time, from ancient Roman ruins to the hottest nightclubs in Paris.

For many people, to travel Africa means exploring the great savannahs. Going on safari is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, filled with unimaginable beauty and the opportunity to see exotic animals in their natural habitats. Similarly, Westerners can travel Asia to immerse themselves in cultures vastly different from their own. The contrasts that Asian destinations provide - from the bustling metropolis that is Hong Kong and the high-tech Tokyo to the rural areas of Thailand and Vietnam - challenge and delight the senses.

Even as recently as twenty years ago, if you wished to travel Europe, travel Asia, or travel Africa, it would have been a pipe dream or one that required you to spend a lifetime's worth of savings. Today's global economy, however, translates into multi-city cheap tickets that can turn virtually anyone into a continent-hopping frequent flyer.

The Internet, of course, is the key to booking cheap tickets. Although individual airlines sometimes offer specials in international travel, third party companies are often the place to turn for cheap tickets. Their proprietary search technology allows them to link to dozens and dozens of airlines, and scour airfares at the lowest possible cost.

Once you've made the decision to undertake the adventure of a multi-city trip and travel Europe, travel Asia, or travel Africa, it's time to book your airfare. The best approach to securing cheap tickets is flexibility. The more flexibility you have in your travel dates and in your destinations, the more likely you are to find the cheap tickets you desire.

With enough flexibility, you can even take a trip around the world for the cost of a single round trip airfare with a traditional carrier. Why not start at a major airline hub close to home, and see where your adventure takes you? Instead of having your heart set on flying from New York City to Paris, why not go from New York to Zurich, and then book a short flight on a smaller airline from Zurich to Paris? Small airlines often offer cheap tickets without a penalty for a one-way ticket.

If you want to see the world, you should make sure to pack a sense of adventure. That, combined with excellent Internet sleuthing skills, can make your travel dreams a reality.

The History Of Aerial Maps And Mapping

Maps have been around for centuries, it is hard to image how our forefathers were able to so accurate depict the world with the limitations they face. Babylonian clay tablets are the earliest surviving signs of any maps made. These showed the world as flat; because no one knows for sure when or where the first map was drawn the Babylonian depiction hold the honor as the world s first map. This map was found in 1930 in present day Iraq.

While we can trace the history of maps to ancient times, the history of aerial maps is much shorter. The discipline came about only after the advent of photography and flying. The first aerial maps were photographs taken from hot air balloons in the mid 1800s. The first record aerial photograph was taken over France in 1858 by Nader (Gasper Felix Tournachon). He took a picture of a French village, Petit-Bectre from a hot air balloon. This picture showed the houses in the village; he followed this feat with another depicting Paris in 1868. Unfortunately these aerial maps no longer exist, but James Wallace Black s aerial shot of Boston in 1860 is still in existence today.

By 1906, the full range of what could be done with a camera in mid-air was being realized. Photographer George Lawrence captured the aftermath of the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 using a number of kites equipped with cameras. This showed the use of aerial photographs as a map to identify what destruction was done to the area. The first such picture using an airplane was done by Wilber Wright, of the Wright brothers, in 1909.

Today many aerial maps are available from Microsoft TerraServer, which includes thousands of spy maps from the Cold War era. These are a great addition to the developing knowledgebase on the history of aerial maps.

Disney Vacation Information

by A.Causey

Disney vacation is one of the most fun vacations to plan.Knowing what a Disney Vacation has to offer, will help you get in on some of the best packages available. You can have a travel agent do the bulk of it for you, or do it yourself.

I would like to give some tips to others on how to go about planning a vacation to the Happiest Place on Earth. First, before deciding anything else, you must decide which date you would like to be at the Disneyland Resort. The date is important, depending on what you would like to do while there.

The busiest times at a Disney park are Spring Break, summer, and the week between Christmas and New Years. While busy time periods cause longer lines, they also have fewer attractions down for rehabilitation, and more parades and shows will be scheduled. For the less busy times of year, the queues will be shorter, but entertainment may just be held on weekends, and more attractions will be down for rehab in the slow season. All of this must be taken into account when you decide on your travel dates. If you want to see all of the entertainment, and ride every ride, then summer, Spring Break, or Christmas week would probably be your better choice.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas the parks are less busy, but it is a great time to go because most entertainment and attractions will be up and running in preparation of the busiest week of the year. If your goal for a Disney Vacation is to simply be there, see and do as much as you possibly can in a short period of time, you may want to choose a less busy time of year. Once again, a great time would be between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Disney is a totally different place in the Christmas Season, with all of the wonderful decorations. Spending a magical time like Christmas, at a magical place like Disneyland Resort is an incredible vacation.

By the first week of January the decorations come down, and the crowds stay light, but Haunted Mansion and It's A Small World are usually scheduled to be refurbished, to removed the holiday overlay. If rides and shows are not important to you, this is the perfect time to go on a Disney Vacation. The dream of a Disney Vacation is one which is in the minds of children and adults alike.

If you go without a plan, although you'll still have a relatively good time, you'll find that you spent much more time, effort, and money, than you would have if you had planned for that dreamed of Discount Disney Vacation. The plan doesn't have to be elaborate, but you should do your "homework" and "know before you go."

Walt Disney World, Orlando, caters for kids large and small, mom, dad and everyone else you can think of. Booking a vacation at a Disney resort is very definitely fun for all the family. And give you memories that will last a lifetime. Apart from the usual rides, shows and well-loved Disney characters, there are plenty of attractions designed to entertain adults. Disney is pretty good at arranging activities so that mom or dad - or both - can get time off to have a look around, so why not spend some time in the France pavilion. Disney's designers have lovingly recreated the streets of Paris for you to enjoy a real romantic break. You can shop in chic boutiques, offering very nearly all the designer goods you would find on the Champs Elysées. And when you're exhausted after a busy morning hitting the cash registers, you can chill out at a variety of authentic Parisian cafés and restaurants. Those of an adventurous turn of mind could explore the possibilities for excitement presented by one of Disney's Kilimanjaro Safaris. Disney's very own small-scale safari park is populated by genuine animals for the African savannahs - take a guided drive to see the giraffes and hippos, and you'll be transported in an instant to the endless grasslands of the Masai Mara. Both these activities, of course, offer possibilities for the whole family.

If you're an independent and outdoors type, you might like to consider the Fort Wilderness campground. You can take your own tent or RV, or stay in one of the campground's self-catering cabins. The campground is a miniature vacation destination all to itself - there are activities for kids, trails to hike, and fun sing-along campfire evenings, for you to get to know your fellow campers. If you want to stay in more solid accommodation the first level is one of Disney World's 'Value Resorts.' The All-Star Music Resort, for example, is a great hotel and entertainment center.Like all of Disney's resorts of all levels; it is themed - the theme in question being, of course, music. The Disney Corporation takes its theming very seriously The All-Star Music Resort allows you to enjoy music of all styles from country to jazz, and even has a pool shaped like a grand piano Like all the Disney World resorts, Value Resorts are within easy striking distance of all the central Disney World attractions, and transport there and back is completely taken care of.

The next level up are the Disney Moderate Resorts.Rooms are a little more spacious than those at the Value Resorts, and the range of facilities on offer is a little wider. The Caribbean Beach Resort, to take an example, has some room service - there's none in Value Resorts - and a variety of other small perks and features not available to Value guests. If you want to sample the very best Disney has to offer, you should book a place at a Disney World Deluxe Resort.Deluxe guests get the best rooms, world-class restaurants, concierge and bell service and access to spas, health clubs and even a business center and wi-fi internet access for those who just can't bear to be away from their desk.

Disney Vacations are a world of it's own.Your family will enjoy this fantastic place to visit. But rememmber PLANNING IT IS THE KEY! For more Information on the exciting packages for your Disney Vacation Information Visit:

Frequent Flyer Programs

Frequent flyer programs are a conglomeration of all the services that are rendered by an airline company to those passengers for their customer loyalty. Frequent flyer programs are very advantageous for those who have to fly often for various reasons, mostly for business purposes. These kinds of programs come up with various objects and various other financially lucrative offers such as frequent flyer credit cards, airline services and many such other things.

The importance of travel in modern day living has reached such a level that a whole system of economy and strategic activities have taken shape. This economy of activities produced by the institutional representations of travel creates a whole system of recompenses, facilities and advantages for those individuals as well organizations that remain loyal to the services and products of that related institution.

Frequent Flyer is part and parcel with the travel industry. These kinds of programs for the customers depend on the financial gain that an institution has achieved from a single individual or a unit organization. A frequent flyer program is a lucrative service offered by many airline companies in order to pay respect gain the loyalty of a customer. These customers, in this case the passengers, are given certain advantages, such as free travel. If a customer enrolls his or her name in the frequent flyer program, he or she accumulates points depending on the corresponding distance flown on that airline. These points are also called frequent flyer miles and they can be enhanced for air travel and other such lucrative products and services on raising or redeeming what is called a frequent flyer miles.

Nevertheless, this is a very well-organized and an ideal example of utilizing the finance capital and extending the influence of a different sector in various sectors of the market.

Paris Hilton- Money Opportunist or Great Business Woman?

Paris Hilton is the rich heiress of the hotel giant Conrad Hilton, her great grand father. One can say she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Her mother, Kathy Richards married Richard Howard Hilton and then became instantly rich. Paris Hilton has two brothers and one sister but we almost never hear of them. One can wonder why Paris Hilton is always in the spotlights.

Paris Hilton s talents have been proven to be very limited so far. Yet, she manages to be on important magazine covers weekly and is one of the top searches on the internet. Paris Hilton has tempted a career in modeling, acting and singing with limited results.

Paris Hilton s romantic relationships have been with rich heirs such as Paris Latsis, a young rich Greek heir. Most of her relationships have not lasted long just like it is the case for Hollywood s romances. Is Paris Hilton than just a parasite? Is she just pursuing the plan her grandmother always taught her and her mother: to pursue money rather than love at any price.

Paris Hilton is now estimated to be worth well over 40 million dollars. Is this money all other people s money she squeezed out of na ve people? Has Paris Hilton ever lifted a finger to gain money on her own? The answer is YES. Paris Hilton is responsible for a good part of her fortune and can raise her head high by being able to say she is not a parasite but rather a good business woman. Paris Hilton has capitalized on her main talent which is to manage to be noticed and attract attention rather it be positive or negative. In short, Paris Hilton has the power to trigger three reactions in most people, indifference is not one of them. Hence, people either love Paris Hilton, hate her or love to hate her. One only has to search the many forums devoted to Paris Hilton to realize the strong reactions she creates. We can disagree with Paris Hilton s way of doing business but we have to admire the free publicity she is able to create for herself constantly.

It was found to be 40.4 C (104.7 F), and the lowest was -23.9 C (-11.0 F) recorded in the year 1879 on the 10th of December.

Spring is a wonderful time to visit any place and Paris is no exception, though, it can turn wet sometimes. The magnificent avenues and shady trees enhance the charms of Paris. The average day time temperature is the highest from May to September with the mercury showing 25 C (76 F). Winters especially from December to February can be quite cold with the mercury falling to 3 C (37 F).The winter season is also accompanied by cold winds.

In Paris, rainfall can occur at any time of the year. The average yearly precipitation is around 641.6mm (25.2 inches). The months of September, October and November receive the least rainfall (about 2.7 inches), while the period ranging from April to July receives the highest rainfall (about 10 inches).

Paris is pleasant to visit all round the year and rarely receives any snowfall. Sometimes the coldest months may receive snowfall usually lasting only a day. There has been one unique instance of snowfall in April that may have been caused due to changes in the global weather patterns.

Flying To And From France Just Got Cheaper

Those who have recently bought property in France will be pleased to hear that it has just got that bit easier and cheaper to visit family and friends in Blighty. Perhaps you are searching for a property to buy - then you can now access most regions of France cheaply and easily!

Paris based airline Air France has made travel to and from the continent and further abroad less of a chore by dropping long haul levies by seven euros (4.6 pounds).

The changes came into effect on February 3rd and will see surcharges on transcontinental flights go down by one euro to 21 euros.

Long haul trips are five euros cheaper per sector, reducing the charge to 33 euros.

Air France cited the fact that oil prices have remained below 60 dollars (30 pounds) a barrel for some time as the reason behind the move.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which is not only the oldest but now the largest airline company in the world since merging with the French national carrier, has followed suit by lowering the extras on its longer journeys, as well as on European travel.

Earlier this month, Sky Team, the group which both KLM and Air France belong to, was awarded Best Airline Alliance by Global Traveller Magazine.

Air France also performed well at the awards as an individual managing to scoop the prize for best transatlantic airline. Scheduled airline fares to France are becoming more competitive.

These changes are also a response to the success of the budget airlines offering low cost fares to corners of France. RyanAir, Flybe, Easyjet and others have had a significant effect on property prices. Property prices have risen significantly in the area around French airports served by the low cost airlines.

Finding Great Coffee in Paris, France

by Teena Hughes

OK, I admit it ... I'm a bit of a coffee evangelist, someone who loves the taste of good coffee. My background is that I've had coffee in many countries of the world, and my favourite is Italian coffee, made in an espresso machine. Luckily for me, there is a huge Italian population in Australia and many of us have become connoisseurs because of the wealth of fantastic cafes in Sydney, Melbourne and other locations.

My favourite type of coffee is a latte which is comprised of good strong Italian coffee, topped off by thick creamy hot milk and a bit of foam.

What's that I hear you ask? "Have you ever been unhappy with a coffee?"

Yes, I've sent back lukewarm tasteless coffees in many cafes. This doesn't mean I'm a coffee snob, it just means I like to have a bit of coffee in my coffee if you know what I mean :-)

When I was visiting Paris, France recently I knew I'd need to find some good coffee. I've lived in Paris and visited many times, and the French are not known for their coffee. Or milk. My experiences on this trip brought back vivid memories of when I lived there ... lots of cafes served coffee that tasted like tar, and the milk added was almost always UHT milk - milk which doesn't need refrigerating, and which has a smell which is hard to describe.

So - the search was on! I arrived in Paris and found the closest internet café [what would we do without the internet? I shudder to think ...]

I found a couple of potential cafes who SOUNDED good, so my first adventure was to head off and do the taste test.

=== Caffé Kimbo de Napoli - 5 Place du Ternes, 75017 Paris ===

One of my friends in Paris [Gabrielle] had spotted the name of this café from the bus on her way to work. It had an Italian name, so we held great hopes that it might turn out to be a little oasis amongst the other cafes in the area. We arranged to meet late one afternoon, and I quickly spotted the name of the café snuggled tightly between some lovely shops. I stepped inside the cute little café, with beautiful dark wooden walls, and was greeted by a delightful woman with a huge friendly smile who answered all our demanding questions.

"Do you have real Italian coffee??"

"Is it Arabica??"

"Is it strong??"

"Do you use fresh milk??"

"Have you ever heard of a latte??"

The lady in the café answered, "Yes!" to all our questions with the greatest of patience, and Gabrielle and I wriggled and squirmed like happy new puppies, in anticipation of having the first good strong Italian latte in Paris. The wait was worth it - the coffee was excellent! I highly recommend this café.

Taste: Strong Italian espresso made with a REAL Italian espresso machine.

Milk : Fresh milk, steamed to perfectection!

Quality: Thick and creamy latte - decidedly delicious.

We drank way too many coffees in our first sitting, but we were so excited we were hooked on the flavour and had to keep savouring 'just one more cup'.

A few days latter I decided to check out another possible cafe, on my adventure to find the best coffee in Paris.

=== Café Malongo - 50 rue St Andre des Arts, 75006 Paris === I found Cafe Malongo mentioned on the internet, so I took the metro to St Michel, walked along the gorgeous Rue Saint Andre des Arts and stepped inside Malongo's wide glass doors. Wow! What a huge café! I was overwhelmed by the size of the café, and delighted by all the little sections where I could sit down and read the paper; some people had laptops plugged in, everyone was savouring their coffees in a great atmosphere, with easy-listening music in the background.

You can order coffee plus cakes or pastries, but no sandwiches or lunch-type food is available.

My latte was served in a long glass, the tray was wonderfully presented, and the staff efficient and very friendly.

Taste: Different coffee ground on the premises each day. I tried one, then asked for 'strong' for my next one.

Milk : Fresh milk, steamed.

Quality: The milk didn't have that thick creamy quality I adore, but it was good.

Was my adventure worthwhile? Absolutely! As I discover more places I enjoy, I will continue to write about them and share with you.

A bientot! See you soon!

Long Wait Times For Medical Care, Expense - The Lure Of Medical Tourism

by Maggie Z. Mathews

What is medical tourism? Indeed could you become a medical tourist in the future?

Perhaps.Perhaps you live in a place such as the U.K. or Canada where either there are long queues for medical procedures or care. Perhaps as in the case in Canada that not only are there long queue lines for medical care but Socialist thinking makes it impossible and indeed immoral for any one to jump the queue. According the standard socialist trend thinking in Canada, if a person mortgages their home in order to obtain a life saving kidney transplant overseas, then they are considered to be an evil person who has "jumped the queue".. Indeed as noted medical economist M. L. Labovitch notes that in the" North End Socialist mindset ", that had this person completed the real estate transaction to travel and party or to buy government sponsored lottery tickets then they would be commended and all would be fine and dandy. Finally it may be that it may be that you just cannot afford the cost of medical treatment of medical procedure in your geographic and home area.

There is nothing new under the sun in the concept of medical tourism. Indeed the first recorded examples of medical tourism date back thousands of yeas when Greek pilgrims traveled from all the Mediterranean to the small territory in the Sardonic Gulf called Epidauria. Epidauria was the sanctuary of the healing god Asklepios. Epidauria was the first original travel destination for what has become to be known as "Medical Tourism".

Medical tourists can come from anywhere in the world including the United States Europe, the U.K., the Middle East, This because of the large population, relatively high wealth. The high expenses of health care "back home" and / or limited access or long wait times for medical care and / or medical procedures.

It used to be that the best medical care was in the wealth industrialized countries. Rochester at the Mayo Clinic or in private hospitals in the U.K. The brightest of the third world often went to the wealthy countries and stayed on as they felt both their professional and financial options were more than limited in countries of origin.

Not now. The world had become a much smaller place with modern communications and travel. Costs (especially labor which is a major component of any health care system) is much less. Furthermore the industrialized world has a legacy of an older infrastructure and labor codes. Everything that is set up or purchased in the former areas of the third world where medical tourism is expanding is usually brand new, if not state or the art. And if outside help or expertise is required this is readily accessible in our new modern age of high speed internet communications and transportation. Standards of care and level of medical expertise are generally just as high as and sometimes even higher than at home in the industrialized wealthy counties. Indeed instead of an old steamy dingy hospital cafeteria that you expected the medical tourist may well think that they are in a luxury 5 star resort. As the New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman noted in 0his authoritative books " The World is Flat" , "France can forgot about trying to save her 6 week worker vacation period standard holidays.". "In India they are trying to figure out how they can work 24 hours a day".

French Riots Winding Down as Only 342 Cars Torched

The riots in France have lasted for over 2-weeks now with almost 10,000 automobiles torched and set fire and over 200,000 Molotov Cocktails thrown starting fires. Over 300 towns throughout France received widespread damage. The suburbs of Paris received the brunt of the civil unrest in the Socialist Country.

The police and firemen have been attacked and many emergency vehicles have also been destroyed. The mostly Muslim Rioters claim that there is little or no opportunity for them in France citing the unemployment rates amongst that segment of the population over forty percent while in the United States it is barely 6 to 7 percent.

France has been very critical of the United States and Capitalism. Most of this is said to be from a deep resentment of the American Economic Engines say a few political analysts and economists. Luckily despite France s dire economic outlook and failing government, they now have brought the Riots under control.

Americans watching France burn to the ground have been critical of France s media attack on the United States and say it serves them right. Although France is quick to point out that Americans have rioted too. Today the Politicians of France are reporting that the French Riots of 2005 are now winding down, as only 342 cars had been torched the night before.

Many reporters say this number is highly unsubstantiated and is more likely double that figure. Historians of civil unrest, political and social sciences quickly point out that in no riot in the United States History has the number of cars torched reached even 10% of the number in the 2005 French riots. This fact has prompted many to ask; is France Dead? Is this their final stand.

Such an Old Country with so much history and knowledge; is it finally over and with it; Is Socialism finally proven to be unworkable as a method of running a civilization, much the same as Communism in the old USSR? Is France finally ready to throw in the towel as its organizational theory crumbles? Think on this.
