It's the end of the day and you're heading back up north, the trains late and the buses are full. When you eventually get on-board, you find you're not the only one who feels the need to call home, letting loved-ones know that you're going to be an hour or two late.

Now, imagine that train or bus journey is going to last for 4 hours, well that's soon going to be the reality of your next plane journey to places such as Turkey thanks to a new service from OnAir.

Mobile phones were once banned on planes due to fears that they interfere with on-board navigation equipment. Infact, 20 incidents of on-board malfunctions linked to mobile phones occurred between January 2000 and August 2005. This problem was looked at by companies Arinc and Telenor back in September 2004 and were able to demonstrate that technical problems can be solved but regulations would need to catch up.

Now the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has given the go ahead for OnAir to implement their mobile service and has no more worries about safety. The first deployment of the service is due by the end of the year and will be launched by Air France and Ryan Air, then followed by other airlines. The service will cost around £1.50 per minute, a similar price to that charged by the majority of the networks if you're not on a roaming scheme.

This is great news for passengers, both travelling for business or for those heading off on their holidays. Before taking advantage of this service it's worth remembering to speak to your network about the many different mobile phone deals they have available, reducing the rate's you'll pay when making or receiving calls.

Livigno Italy Is The Place To Ski Duty Free

France, Austria and Switzerland are some of the most famous ski resorts for British skiers and snowboarders. But these traditional favourites are now also some of the most expensive places to get your snow fix. It's not uncommon to pay 7 Euros or more for an après ski beer in ski bars in Val D'isere or Kitzbuhel - and cheap accommodation can also be hard to find.

Many skiers are looking to Eastern Europe for a cheaper ski trip, but while there are certainly bargains to be found in the Balkans, the resorts tend be less developed than in Western Europe and offer less extensive terrain. So what does the cash strapped skier do?

The answer lies in the not-so-well-known ski resort of Livingo, Italy. Set in the Italian Alps at 1816 m above sea level, Livigno offers extensive skiing without breaking the bank. With 33 lifts and 110km of skiing, the area attracts all levels of snow sports fans. The wide open runs are perfect for beginners to learn and intermediates to progress, and the terrain park and easy back country access will even keep more advanced skiers and snowboarders happy for a week or more.

The town has avoided the rapid building boom of imposing concrete high rise hotels that has blighted some of the more famous ski resorts in Western Europe. Instead, Livigno remains a town with plenty of rustic charm; the traditional wooden chalets and small rural buildings are easy on the eye and add to the natural charm of the surrounds.

But the best thing about Livigno is the price, due to its duty free status which was introduced by the Austro-Hungarian Empire about 160 years ago. It's thought that Livigno's remote nature, which was completely cut off from the rest of the country during the harsh winters, was largely the reason it was made into a tax free haven. And even nowadays, only three roads connect the town with other areas - though improvements in building technology and snow clearance mean that access is no longer a problem.

Perhaps the only downside to Livigno is its slight inaccessibility from major airports. It's around a three hour drive from Bergamo or Innsbruck, but with regular buses to the resort or cheap car hire in Italy readily available, getting to Livigno isn't difficult.

So, with plenty of terrain, easily accessible off piste, a warm Italian reception and prices far cheaper than other resorts in Western Europe, Livigno is one excellent Italian job.

The History Of Aerial Maps And Mapping

Maps have been around for centuries, it is hard to image how our forefathers were able to so accurate depict the world with the limitations they face. Babylonian clay tablets are the earliest surviving signs of any maps made. These showed the world as flat; because no one knows for sure when or where the first map was drawn the Babylonian depiction hold the honor as the world s first map. This map was found in 1930 in present day Iraq.

While we can trace the history of maps to ancient times, the history of aerial maps is much shorter. The discipline came about only after the advent of photography and flying. The first aerial maps were photographs taken from hot air balloons in the mid 1800s. The first record aerial photograph was taken over France in 1858 by Nader (Gasper Felix Tournachon). He took a picture of a French village, Petit-Bectre from a hot air balloon. This picture showed the houses in the village; he followed this feat with another depicting Paris in 1868. Unfortunately these aerial maps no longer exist, but James Wallace Black s aerial shot of Boston in 1860 is still in existence today.

By 1906, the full range of what could be done with a camera in mid-air was being realized. Photographer George Lawrence captured the aftermath of the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 using a number of kites equipped with cameras. This showed the use of aerial photographs as a map to identify what destruction was done to the area. The first such picture using an airplane was done by Wilber Wright, of the Wright brothers, in 1909.

Today many aerial maps are available from Microsoft TerraServer, which includes thousands of spy maps from the Cold War era. These are a great addition to the developing knowledgebase on the history of aerial maps.

From the airport, you have to take a train to the Central Station first. The waiting time for the train is about 20 minutes and the train ride takes about 20 minutes. It was found to be 40.4 C (104.7 F), and the lowest was -23.9 C (-11.0 F) recorded in the year 1879 on the 10th of December.

Spring is a wonderful time to visit any place and Paris is no exception, though, it can turn wet sometimes. The magnificent avenues and shady trees enhance the charms of Paris. The average day time temperature is the highest from May to September with the mercury showing 25 C (76 F). Flying To And From France Just Got Cheaper

Those who have recently bought property in France will be pleased to hear that it has just got that bit easier and cheaper to visit family and friends in Blighty. Perhaps you are searching for a property to buy - then you can now access most regions of France cheaply and easily!

Paris based airline Air France has made travel to and from the continent and further abroad less of a chore by dropping long haul levies by seven euros (4.6 pounds).

The changes came into effect on February 3rd and will see surcharges on transcontinental flights go down by one euro to 21 euros.

Long haul trips are five euros cheaper per sector, reducing the charge to 33 euros.

Air France cited the fact that oil prices have remained below 60 dollars (30 pounds) a barrel for some time as the reason behind the move.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which is not only the oldest but now the largest airline company in the world since merging with the French national carrier, has followed suit by lowering the extras on its longer journeys, as well as on European travel.

Earlier this month, Sky Team, the group which both KLM and Air France belong to, was awarded Best Airline Alliance by Global Traveller Magazine.

Air France also performed well at the awards as an individual managing to scoop the prize for best transatlantic airline. Scheduled airline fares to France are becoming more competitive.

Finding Great Coffee in Paris, France

OK, I admit it ... I'm a bit of a coffee evangelist, someone who loves the taste of good coffee. My background is that I've had coffee in many countries of the world, and my favourite is Italian coffee, made in an espresso machine. Luckily for me, there is a huge Italian population in Australia and many of us have become connoisseurs because of the wealth of fantastic cafes in Sydney, Melbourne and other locations.

My favourite type of coffee is a latte which is comprised of good strong Italian coffee, topped off by thick creamy hot milk and a bit of foam.

What's that I hear you ask? "Have you ever been unhappy with a coffee?"

Yes, I've sent back lukewarm tasteless coffees in many cafes. This doesn't mean I'm a coffee snob, it just means I like to have a bit of coffee in my coffee if you know what I mean :-)

When I was visiting Paris, France recently I knew I'd need to find some good coffee. I've lived in Paris and visited many times, and the French are not known for their coffee. Or milk. My experiences on this trip brought back vivid memories of when I lived there ... lots of cafes served coffee that tasted like tar, and the milk added was almost always UHT milk - milk which doesn't need refrigerating, and which has a smell which is hard to describe.

So - the search was on! I arrived in Paris and found the closest internet café [what would we do without the internet? I shudder to think ...]

I found a couple of potential cafes who SOUNDED good, so my first adventure was to head off and do the taste test.

One of my friends in Paris [Gabrielle] had spotted the name of this café from the bus on her way to work. It had an Italian name, so we held great hopes that it might turn out to be a little oasis amongst the other cafes in the area. We arranged to meet late one afternoon, and I quickly spotted the name of the café snuggled tightly between some lovely shops. I stepped inside the cute little café, with beautiful dark wooden walls, and was greeted by a delightful woman with a huge friendly smile who answered all our demanding questions.

"Do you have real Italian coffee??"

"Is it Arabica??"

"Is it strong??"

"Do you use fresh milk??"

"Have you ever heard of a latte??"

The lady in the café answered, "Yes!" to all our questions with the greatest of patience, and Gabrielle and I wriggled and squirmed like happy new puppies, in anticipation of having the first good strong Italian latte in Paris. The wait was worth it - the coffee was excellent! I highly recommend this café.

Taste: Strong Italian espresso made with a REAL Italian espresso machine.

Milk : Fresh milk, steamed to perfectection!

Quality: Thick and creamy latte - decidedly delicious.

We drank way too many coffees in our first sitting, but we were so excited we were hooked on the flavour and had to keep savouring 'just one more cup'.

A few days latter I decided to check out another possible cafe, on my adventure to find the best coffee in Paris.

=== Café Malongo - 50 rue St Andre des Arts, 75006 Paris === I found Cafe Malongo mentioned on the internet, so I took the metro to St Michel, walked along the gorgeous Rue Saint Andre des Arts and stepped inside Malongo's wide glass doors. Wow! What a huge café! I was overwhelmed by the size of the café, and delighted by all the little sections where I could sit down and read the paper; some people had laptops plugged in, everyone was savouring their coffees in a great atmosphere, with easy-listening music in the background.

You can order coffee plus cakes or pastries, but no sandwiches or lunch-type food is available.

My latte was served in a long glass, the tray was wonderfully presented, and the staff efficient and very friendly.

Taste: Different coffee ground on the premises each day. I tried one, then asked for 'strong' for my next one.

Milk : Fresh milk, steamed.

Quality: The milk didn't have that thick creamy quality I adore, but it was good.

Was my adventure worthwhile? Absolutely! As I discover more places I enjoy, I will continue to write about them and share with you.

Indeed as noted medical economist M. L. Labovitch notes that in the" North End Socialist mindset ", that had this person completed the real estate transaction to travel and party or to buy government sponsored lottery tickets then they would be commended and all would be fine and dandy. Finally it may be that it may be that you just cannot afford the cost of medical treatment of medical procedure in your geographic and home area.

Not now. The world had become a much smaller place with modern communications and travel. Costs (especially labor which is a major component of any health care system) is much less. Furthermore the industrialized world has a legacy of an older infrastructure and labor codes. Everything that is set up or purchased in the former areas of the third world where medical tourism is expanding is usually brand new, if not state or the art. And if outside help or expertise is required this is readily accessible in our new modern age of high speed internet communications and transportation. Standards of care and level of medical expertise are generally just as high as and sometimes even higher than at home in the industrialized wealthy counties. Indeed instead of an old steamy dingy hospital cafeteria that you expected the medical tourist may well think that they are in a luxury 5 star resort. As the New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman noted in 0his authoritative books " The World is Flat" , "France can forgot about trying to save her 6 week worker vacation period standard holidays.". French Riots Winding Down as Only 342 Cars Torched

The riots in France have lasted for over 2-weeks now with almost 10,000 automobiles torched and set fire and over 200,000 Molotov Cocktails thrown starting fires. Over 300 towns throughout France received widespread damage. The suburbs of Paris received the brunt of the civil unrest in the Socialist Country.

The police and firemen have been attacked and many emergency vehicles have also been destroyed. The mostly Muslim Rioters claim that there is little or no opportunity for them in France citing the unemployment rates amongst that segment of the population over forty percent while in the United States it is barely 6 to 7 percent.

France has been very critical of the United States and Capitalism. Most of this is said to be from a deep resentment of the American Economic Engines say a few political analysts and economists. Luckily despite France s dire economic outlook and failing government, they now have brought the Riots under control.

Americans watching France burn to the ground have been critical of France s media attack on the United States and say it serves them right. Although France is quick to point out that Americans have rioted too. Today the Politicians of France are reporting that the French Riots of 2005 are now winding down, as only 342 cars had been torched the night before.

Many reporters say this number is highly unsubstantiated and is more likely double that figure. Historians of civil unrest, political and social sciences quickly point out that in no riot in the United States History has the number of cars torched reached even 10% of the number in the 2005 French riots. This fact has prompted many to ask; is France Dead? Is this their final stand.

Such an Old Country with so much history and knowledge; is it finally over and with it; Is Socialism finally proven to be unworkable as a method of running a civilization, much the same as Communism in the old USSR? Is France finally ready to throw in the towel as its organizational theory crumbles? Think on this.

The Range Rover is one of the best of the Land Rover models. Its popularity is unparalleled. Even today people remember the days when it was launched, with awe. In the morning we chose to go sailing on a 12-Metre racing schooner that had raced in the America's Cup. In the daylight we wandered along from store to store in the sun with calypso song in the background, then finishped for a cool swig on a respiteaurant yard along the ocean, and thought about the people storering in the crowds back home.

Next finish was St. John, the U.S. Virgin Island that is a sheltered citizen accord. There are drain seashorees there and some superb climbing trails. We chose sailing again, while others chose seashoreing, sightseeing around the island by trip bus, or went on one of numerous snorkel/scuba dives. Our schooner took us over to St. Thomas, where we trapped up with the ship. Most of the people went into urban to do some task-boundless storering so their Christmas storering would be done when they got home. Others headed for Magen's Bay, most accepted seashore in the locale. Another group went snorkeling at the sheltered reefs of lowest Island, where feeding fish by hand underwater is a highlight, and others outlooked coral and sea life on the Atlantis marine. We were back on panel in plethora of time for a respite and a shower before dinner, and more big posse song and dancing.

I have three brilliant memories from the support decorous night. One was the group of songians meeting around the CD juke box, singing the old substance and reminiscing. "That's foremost Holley on deep, with thump Stewart, one of those brilliant stage they played together." "Who's the drummer?" "Sounds like Oliver Jackson." "Right. evoke the night ..." I just sat and listened, grinning, pleased to be part of it. The support recall was the outlook at 1 a.m. in the core balllocale. Some of the adult people were snoozing meeting on the section banquettes, too bushed to dance anymore, but too immovable to delay the good song.

It was after 2 a.m. when I happening back to my statelocale, pleasing my everyday stroll beyond the CD juke box to get a breath of sea air before rotary in. The reminiscing songians were vanished, but one elderly join were there, slim and tiny in their decorous clothes, with their arms around each other, forlorn in memories, dancing to an old Tommy Dorsey modify. I had tears in my eyes as I strolled back to my lodge.

The next day was seashore day on a little island in the Bahamas -- Great Stirrup Cay. I worn to live in the Bahamas on one of the outislands, so it was brilliant to get back to transparent turquoise Bahamian waters. I strolled the seashore, and remembered my five living living in the islands.

At the end of seven time, the ship was saccordling with decorations, swift for the Christmas and New Year's Cruise. They were alswift perfectly booked. But, I thought, I can mark up for next year. But time got away and now she will sail no more.

If you're a website owner who's unhappy with the business your Internet presence is generating, I wouldn't be surprised if you think your copy is the culprit, too. A lot of people think that if there's a problem with conversion that the sales copy must be at fault.

This is WRONG THINKING...and potentially fatal to your website's success.

Don't misunderstand me... My business is copywriting. It's my bread and butter. (Also my caviar and champagne!) I come from a traditional sales and marketing background where the emphasis is on "words that sell."

The world's most brilliant sales letter for the world's most incredible product won't necessarily generate the through-the-roof results you might expect. The truth is that turning a casual site visitor into a "here's my credit card take whatever you want" buyer takes MUCH MORE than just effective copywriting.

Converting prospects into clients and customers takes more than a super headline... More than a list of "what's in it for you"... More than an ironclad guarantee and more than a page of testimonials from celebrities and authorities.

This isn't a war that will be won with words. You need more...much more.

If you think of your website as a high-powered sports car, your sales letter is the engine. But as any racer on the NASCAR circuit will tell you, without the right fuel and other essential components, an engine can't run smoothly and a car will never be first to the checkered flag.

I don't care if you have the most powerful "engine" in the world...the greatest sales letter ever written. If you're not taking advantage of technology and leveraging human psychology in your sales and marketing efforts, you're simply out of the race.

I usually wear my copywriter's "hat" when I do the rant and load you up with lots of ideas for creating great sales messages. The how's and why's...the do's and don'ts... the nuts and bolts.

Conversion Secret #1 - Less Can Be More (Why the QUALITY of Your Traffic is More Important than the Quantity)

The number of people that visit your website is meaningless if they don't buy anything when they're there. You can have ten thousand people hitting your site a month, but if they're looking for camping equipment and you're selling baby strollers, you're not going to convert a single visitor.

And if you're paying per click, this will kill you. Your marketing dollars are going up in smoke.

On the other hand, you can have less traffic, but if they're targeted, you'll have a very high conversion rate. If your baby stroller site has a banner ad at a baby formula store, chances are the people who click through will be more likely to buy from you.

Here's something you MUST keep in mind: "more likely to buy" doesn't mean that they will buy. That's why tracking your traffic is so important. You have to know exactly where your traffic is coming from.

Are they from Per-Pay-Click? Are they from affiliates? Are they from offline marketing? What percentage is from what promotion? Unless you know the answers, you can't build on your success.

Okay, you're not converting 97% of the people that come to your site... But does that mean that their visit has to go into the "lost cause" column? No way!

If you paid to have those people visit, you can't just let them get away! You need to get some kind of return on your investment. Why not do an exit pop-up survey, asking them why they're not buying?

Want to really get a visitor's attention. Use an audio pop-up. When people leave your site you can have a pop-up with an audio portion like this:

"Wait, before you go, could you please help me out? I'm not trying to sell you anything, I just need some information. Could you tell me the single biggest reason that you're not giving us a try today? What's the ONE reason that's stopping you from purchasing (my product name)? Just fill out the box below and click on the submit button. Your opinion matters to me.."

Boom! You've just created your own "consumer feedback forum" and you haven't spent a penny on some high-priced focus groups. Once you get a bunch of responses to your exit poll, you'll be able to identify patterns in what people say. Use what you learn to make the changes that you know for certain will bump up your conversion rate.

Success and failure shouldn't be based on guesswork or assumptions. It doesn't matter what you think is the reason people aren't buying. It doesn't matter what I think is the reason people aren't buying.

The only thing that matters is what your customers think...that's the "pulse" of the marketplace and the lifeblood of your future business. And with an exit survey, your customers will tell you what you need to do in order to convince them to buy your product!

People consider me a marketing wizard because I'm so good at market research. Well, I may be a "wizard," but I'm not a genius, and I certainly didn't earn my Ph.D in marketing. That's because you don't have to be marketing genius to get your finger on the pulse of your industry.

Here's the secret: I am not the marketing wizard. You're not the marketing wizard. Your CUSTOMER is the marketing wizard.

Do you expect to accomplish all that with ONE STEP? Give me a break. What are you thinking?

That's like you're trying to have sex on the first date.

You might get away with it. (You might get some sales and be profitable) But chances are, without a little coaxing from you at every step in the process, you'll be going home alone.

Show some class. Have some manners. Get to know each other. Share some stories. Make a connection. Develop a relationship before you try to close the "deal". People buy from people they trust. So you'll make a lot more sales if you take the time to develop a solid relationship.

How do you convince website visitors that you're one of the "white hats"? Start building that relationship. One way is by giving more than you get.

Give them a free report. Give them a free mini-course. Give them a free ebook. Give them a free chapter. (Are you getting the idea that "free" may be the most important word in relationship-building on the Internet?)

Bribe them and get them to give you their name and email so that you can follow up with them using an autoresponder. And don't forget to make it simple.

One easy-to-use option is a hover ad that drops down on your visitor's screen when they visit your site, inviting them to "opt-in" to your free offer. Why a hover ad? Testing shows hover ad gets more attention than traditional pop-ups.

A more advanced way...and to some a less "savory," but extremely effective way...to capture contact information is to make your home page an opt-in request.

Basically, a visitor can't get to the rest of your site without providing contact information. You qualify them before you let them read your sales pitch! That's pretty brilliant if you ask me!

The opt-in doesn't have to be fancy. And it definitely shouldn't be very long. Just a killer headline and some equally killer benefits. That'll do it.

With audio, you appeal to a completely different sense than the average site. The web is full of visual appeal, but with audio, you suddenly connect with a visitors ears with a whole new component -- a verbal component.

Your spoken words will strike an emotional chord with visitors and connects on a "human" level in an otherwise electronic world.

And here's something that every website needs: excitement. Because it's rare, audio is unusual and attention-getting. It's brand new, instead of the "same old, same old."

The Beatles are the Most Creative Band of All Time

BACKGROUND HISTORY: The first musical bands originated in New Orleans among black musicians who have traditionally been the innovators. The first jazz record ever recorded was by The Original Dixieland Jazz Band in 1917, and of course they were white because racism always rears its ugly head to hold black people back. But during the Roaring 20's, young white people couldn't resist the dance beat laid down by the black jazz bands. Fletcher Henderson, a black man, became the first band leader to achieve national fame possibly because he featured Louis Armstrong on trumpet. Duke Ellington, a classically trained musician, brought a level of style and sophistication to jazz that hadn't been seen before. But it wasn't until 1935 that jazz bands with a "swing beat" achieved national attention due to Benny Goodman who I think was the best clarinet player ever to blow air into that instrument. Benny also had the good sense and taste to bring the first great drummer, Gene Krupa, into his band.

When rock and roll exploded into human consciousness during the early 1950's, black musicians like Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Smokey Robinson pioneered the way, but a white DJ named Alan Freed is believed to have coined the term "rock and roll". The first real rock and roll record was "Shake, Rattle and Roll", written by Jesse Stone who was black and recorded by Big Joe Turner who was also black but it wasn't a hit. The first big hit rock and roll record was "Rock Around the Clock" written by James Meyers and Max Freeman of obvious ancestry, and that one catapulted Bill Haley and his Caucasian Comets to stardom. During the 1950's and early 60's, there were countless "do wop" groups, rock groups, singers and songwriters but until The Beatles hit the charts, there had been very few bands which contained talented songwriters. The vast majority of jazz and rock bands recorded songs written by songwriters who were not performers, with occasional exceptions like Duke Ellington and Buddy Holly. As time goes on, it's increasingly clear that Lennon/McCartney songs are brilliant classics which will never be forgotten. Now here's why The Beatles are the most creative band of all time:

1. BEST EXAMPLE OF FORM = CONTENT

As I sit here writing this at the keyboard of my computer facing the unique and colorful Beatles poster in my bedroom, I'm aware that I have been directly and indirectly inspired by John Lennon's music as well as by the way he lived his life offstage. Squarely in front of me is a full color poster of all four Beatles standing in a heavenly-like flower garden at about the time of the Abbey Road album. Paul is angelic in his pink suit with a white laced shirt. John is enigmatic peering out from the background. George is charismatic staring directly into the camera from the lower right. Ringo is on the left with a stylish blue suit and his pink ruffled shirt. I always wished I could dress like those guys but obviously there's a bit of a problem with a money differential there. Surrounding this gorgeous poster which I have never seen elsewhere are my 45 speed original Beatles hit records, including I Want to Hold Your Hand, She Loves You, Please Please Me, Twist and Shout, Can't Buy Me Love, She's A Woman, Yesterday, and of course, Hey Jude. And surrounding all that is a chain of 1-1/2" long orange flicker flame lights which are the most beautiful and unique Christmas lights I've ever seen. I chose to decorate the wall directly in front of my work station this way because, as I've written elsewhere on this site several times, The Beatles were my major musical influence and having them on the wall in front of me inspires me to write web pages like this one. I was also among the millions of people who were inspired by how The Beatles were actually living their off stage lives. The Beatles' music creatively stimulated millions of people to change the way they were living, and The Beatles behavior encouraged people to have fun by trying new life style experiences. That's what I call a perfect example of FORM = CONTENT. In this case it means that the creatively and masterfully varied music The Beatles were producing (form) embodied the real life styles which each of the four Beatles were living (content), together as a band as well as separately as unique individuals.

2. BEST SONGWRITERS

This should be self-evident, but just because Paul McCartney has the title of the most popular songwriter in history doesn't necessarily make him the best songwriter in history. The qualities which do make both Paul and John the best songwriters in history go beyond writing the greatest number of catchy classic songs. "Catchy" means that their melodies and lyrics are instantly memorable. "Classic" means that they stand the test of time. But both Paul and John wrote very sophisticated melodies that moved beyond the simple groups of 2, 4 and 8 patterned phrases used by almost all other songwriters. John and Paul's melodies soared, floated, cascaded, dived and peaked with true dynamics, naturally following the syllabic lyric patterns - but not always. Sometimes the melodic and lyric patterns were independent of each other, almost counterpoint in nature, and as a songwriter, they never ceased to astonish me with their brilliance and originality. In the beginning, their lyrics were simple and their songs were simple love songs. But they soon began exploring new territory by writing about subjects that hadn't been covered before. Inspired by Bob Dylan, they wrote true poetry with feeling and depth, using evocative and unusual words. Rubber Soul marked the beginning of their evolution as mature songwriters, Revolver was a break-out album, and Sergeant Pepper was an historic landmark album in terms of new and innovative songwriting as well as production. Every song they wrote was significantly different from the last one even though each song had their unmistakable sound.

Most songwriters are only average players on their instruments, but John and Paul are both sophisticated guitarists who were able to integrate their playing into their songs and even into their song structure so that the "licks" they played became as catchy a part of their songs as the choruses and verses. Blackbird and Dear Prudence are only two examples of songs which couldn't possibly be written by any other songwriter because of the guitar playing which forms an integral part of the song structure. In similar fashion, Lady Madonna is the best example of a great song which derives from the unique and beautiful bass part which only Paul could possibly have created.

Average songwriters achieve the catchy quality by repeating a phrase endlessly or by beating a chorus to death. John and Paul found countless ways to be memorable without ever overly repeating something. The only time they repeated something over and over again for a long time was in Hey Jude, and what they chose to repeat is so gorgeous that one can only wish they had never ended the song. The Beatles were my biggest musical influence and I used to think, "If I could write just one song that's as good as John and Paul's worst song, I'd be happy." People tell me I accomplished that goal and they say one good example is John is Alive which is my sincere tribute to Sir Lennon.

3. BEST SINGERS

Even Ringo could sing when he got a little help from his friends who lived in the yellow submarine. But to say that Paul and John are two of the best singers in rock and roll is to state the obvious. Combining John, Paul and George created the best harmony vocals the world has ever experienced. Even their two part harmonies were unusual, catching us all by surprise on their first hit record with the fast harmony melisma in the chorus of I Want to Hold Your Hand. John had a knack of placing a unique low harmony line underneath Paul's high melody line so as to form a second melody which created unusual harmony effects. He did that right from the beginning in the verses of She Loves You. Both Paul and John could blast out screaming rock and roll (i.e. Long Tall Sally and Twist and Shout), and both could break our hearts with touching, deep feeling ballads (i.e. Yesterday and Julia). There seems to be no end to their emotional vocal range, and John even explored the heights of vocal psychedelia in songs like She Said (Revolver) and Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.

4. MOST CREATIVE PLAYERS

Paul brought a new style of melodic playing to the bass guitar, reaching a new high of creativity on Sergeant Pepper with a level of sophistication never heard before. Many other musicians besides me recognize Paul as being one of the best bass guitar players ever. George is underrated as a lead guitarist by people with average or below average musical knowledge or ability, but most guitarists (including Eric Clapton) know better. George's strength is in melody, pure and simple. It would be difficult to find a George Harrison lead which is not melodic, and each of his leads has a strong beginning, a stronger middle and a well defined ending. In fact, that's Eric's definition of what makes a good guitar lead. George continually developed new guitar sounds for each Beatles song. John and Paul are also excellent guitarists and both recorded great leads as well as innovative rhythm tracks. All three of the Beatles guitarists may lack showy technical fireworks but they make that definition of guitar mastery irrelevant by overwhelming the senses with creativity, style, and pure melody. The exact same thing can be said about John and Paul's keyboard playing. Ringo may be underrated as a drummer by the public but he is not underrated by other professional drummers. Ringo mastered the art of drum sounds. No drummer has ever recorded so many different sounds on so many different sounding records. Ringo invented a new style of slow drum playing, epitomized on A Day in the Life and Strawberry Fields Forever. John said many times, "Ringo has the best back beat in the business" and the successful studio drummers understand why John was correct.

5. TOTAL CHARISMA

A good definition of charisma needs to include "an unusual ability to influence people and arouse devotion" and "a personal attractiveness which enables a person to influence others". No musical group prior to or after The Beatles features true charisma emanating strongly from the entire group as well as separately from each member. The Beatles stunned the world with their photogenic quality, their charm, their bubbling and lovable personalities, their cuteness and their unique style. Even before The Beatles achieved fame, people in Liverpool were imitating their haircuts, the way they dressed, the way they behaved, and the way they lived. Such a simple subliminal message about smoking marijuana got communicated to all the hippies who were waiting to happen without actual words ever being spoken. There were twelve people (aside from Jesus) at the last supper. And there are twelve letters in the name Barry Manilow. So it s no surprise that when Alcoholics Anonymous was trying to come up with a catchy way to get people to stop drinking that they came up with a twelve step program. My 12 step program is better than AAs in that they only promise you sobriety. With ours you ll make tons of money, and you don t even have to be sober. Heck, you don t even have to follow all twelve steps; you should be fine if you follow just one. And if that weren t already enough, if you buy now, I ll throw in an extra step. But please, pay careful attention or you might just only become a billionaire.

Step 1: Make People s Lives Easier

This morning, I woke up and immediately went to the bathroom. But only fifteen years ago, I would have been forced to go outside to an outhouse. Indoor plumbing has certainly made your life and mine a lot easier and made one or two inventors quite wealthy. And yet, I still have to get out of bed to go to the bathroom; there are still no toilet beds. Invent a toilet bed, matching sheets and toilet paper, and you re on your way to trillionairehood.

How can you make your life or the life of others easier? I still have to put sugar, then milk into my coffee every morning. And that s not all. Then, I have to stir. Why hasn t anyone yet invented sugar milk? Or better yet, why hasn t anyone invented a sugar milk spoon that would melt in my coffee as I twirl it around? I would no longer have to spend countless seconds looking for my milk and my sugar. I m exhausted before I take my first sip. How about a sugar-milk-coffee spoon that would just melt in your mouth. Note to self, call Starbucks and see if they re interesting in going in fifty-fifty on this project with me.

Step 2: Make the Universe a Better Place

Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, more commonly known on the street as Mother Teresa, cared for refugees, the blind, disabled, aged, alcoholics, the poor and homeless, and even those that overused the expression, as a matter of fact . But she never really did much for the rich, except perhaps make them feel guilty. So she died pretty poor. On the other hand, Sir Walter Reeses boldly took two great tastes (chocolate and peanut butter) and put them into one candy bar: Reese s Peanut Butter Cups.

Mother Teresa is up to become a saint, but Walter got knighted just like Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John. Sirdom is a lot more financially rewarding than sainthood. I digress.

How can you make the universe a better place, particularly for the rich? Many people focus on what the poor don t have; but what about what the rich don t have? Do they not matter? In Greenwich, Connecticut you can call your next door neighbor s mother a pedantic endomorph, but will gang violence ensue as a result? Probably not. So some brilliant entrepreneur invented Playstation 3 which brings all the fun of livin in da hood to your own home movie theater. And thanks to ingenuous businessmen like Sean P. Diddy Combs, bad boys throughout Connecticut can listen to hip hop music, dress like gangsta bitches, and play with their X-boxes. Isn t the world a great place?

Fear not, there s still room for improvement. The rich still get herniated discs, indigestion, and have to spend time on the weekends with their whiny kids. Has anyone come up with a golf bag that is easier to carry from your garage to your car and can play with your kids while your sipping a martini? Maybe one that can get out of your trunk and into your garage with a simple verbal command. Go out and make the world a better place. For the rich.

Step 3: Solve Problems That Don t Really Exist

There are two types of problems: those that exist and those that don t exist. Solving actual problems (or the ones that actually exist) is difficult, time consuming, depressing, and never financially rewarding. Focus on problems that don t exist. Some people have a difficult time telling the two apart. So let me help.

The North Koreans have nuclear weapons but don t have any food. So they tend to wake up cranky. It s just a matter of time before they sell a nuclear bomb to a group of terrorists that own an all you can eat buffet. This is a real problem. The fact that we are all going to die, probably as the winner of the next season of American Idol is just about to be announced is not only depressing, but who the hell knows how to solve this problem. Not me.

The Canadians do not have nuclear weapons. But they come into our country, dress like us, eat like us, and take our most coveted jobs. People bitch and whine about the Mexicans. But Alex Trebek, who has 100% full control of what you see on Jeopardy, the categories chosen for both Jeopardy and Double Jeopardy, is not Mexican; he s Canadian. The late Peter Jennings who used to always tilt world news to a Canadian perspective would dip his Doritos in maple syrup, not guacamole. Will & Grace. Grace- Jewish and originally from New York. But Will- Canadian. Not right.

But there s a solution. Why doesn t someone come up with a line of T- shirts that say, I m not Canadian! Of course, you would have to show your birth certificate in order to get one of the T-shirts. They d come in all different colors. There are about six billion people floating around that are NOT Canadian. So the market is pretty big.

So how can you come up with some problems that don t really exist? If the truth be known, as it seldom should, my ability to solve problems that don t exist is just a natural talent that I was born with, along with my ability to worry about ailments that I don t yet have. This is not something I learned. So how the hell can I explain to you how to come up with your own non-existent problems? Shit, this is a real problem!

Step 4: It s Necessary You Just Don t Realize It Yet!

Do you remember back in the 90s when NBC used to call their Thursday night line-up, Must see TV. ? A couple of years before Friends was going off the air, I wrote to the president of NBC and told him to change it to Please watch TV. We re not promising anything, we re asking you a favor. Didn t listen to me, and they lost trillions of dollars in advertising. Although not everyone can come up with solutions to problems that don t really exist, we all should be able to determine when something is necessary even when we don t realize it yet. The key to this is to not live your life in the present. Live in the future. Perhaps this is also the way to solve problems that don t really exist.

My daughters are all under five. But I often worry what if they marry men that I don t like? Everyone has children so as to have someone to complain to when you get old. How come you never come visit me or how come you only come to visit me once a day or how come nobody has massaged my feet today? But what if your future son-in-laws don t know how to massage feet? I ve written up a contract that all my daughters have signed that gives me veto power. I d be happy to send you a copy to have your kids sign. Just send me a check for $586 and a self addressed stamped envelope. Don t live for the day, live for tomorrow. Everyone is so focused on what baby boomers are going to want when they are retired and no longer working. But what are they going to want when they are dead and no longer period? Am I the only one who has come up with the idea of psychedelic tombstones or being able to be cremated at your death and to be recycled into an incense candle?

Step 5: Defending the Homeland

Who was the greatest businessman of the 20th century? That s right, you guessed it, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. FDR coined the very clever phrase, There is nothing to fear but fear itself. Fear sells. Depressions, communist invasions, Nazi s taking over Europe. He made people so worried that they didn t know what to buy first. Sadly, communism is dead, and the Nazis have been relegated to just running our public schools. But there are lots of other things to be afraid of.

You re 85 years old and afraid that you will not be able to perform with your 22 year old girlfriend? Fortunately, there s now Viagra that assures an erect penis. But what happens if your 110 year old mother suddenly rings the bell and wants you and your 22 year old girlfriend to take her food shopping? Can t shop with an erection! Someone needs to come up with an Unviagra.

Afraid that global warming will ruin your daughter s bat mitzvah? Start selling global warming insurance. But be careful, fears are very trendy and easily fall out of favor. Although after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing everyone was afraid of our home grown terrorists, they quickly fell out of favor for the foreign ones who often have names we can not pronounce, making them automatically more scary.

Step 6: Help the Rich

My partner Michel regularly goes on business trips where he stays in five star hotels. Last week he suggested that I come down for a night or two with our oldest daughter. Since I m too cheap to ever spend my own money on a luxury hotel, I thought it would be nice and cost nothing to show my four year how the rich live. We took a taxi from the train station to the hotel where we were greeted by a hotel employee who opened the taxi door for us. Since I was not going to be paying for the hotel, I thought what the hell, and gave him a 25 tip. Then there was another employee who opened the hotel door for us. Another quarter. A maid came to our room to offer to shine my sneakers. As soon as she left, someone else was there offering a big chocolate chip cookie to my daughter. Within the first fifteen minutes of being at the hotel, my free night at the hotel had already cost me $5. I didn t care that it was only 3 in the afternoon, I told my daughter to get in her pajamas, we were going to sleep for the night while I still had some cash left in my wallet.

It s costs a lot of money to be rich. So while the poor don t really need all that much money, the rich do. So any way you can help them, I believe that you shall be rewarded. When you are a trillionaire, remember those billionaires who are less fortunate than you are and try to help. There are lots of young, rich people out there that don t really need your love but could really use some of your money.

Step 7: Take Advantage of the Needy

The advantage of helping the rich is that you can charge huge mark-ups like 19,000%. But it is difficult to find people who can afford to spend $38,000 for something that costs you $2 to produce. You can t charge the needy as much, but look around you, there are so many of them. They re everywhere. For example, the other day I stopped by my parents house while they had some friends over. As I arrived they were talking about Barry Manilow, how gorgeous he is, and how at sixty-three years old, he still sings like a twenty year old. O.K., they were delusional, but they were not hurting anybody. And then for some unknown reason, they started talking about hip hop, 25 cents, Dr. Drech, Iced Coffee, and Tupac Schomberg. They were like deer caught in the glare of some car s headlights. Someone was going to get him. I left before anyone got hurt. But on my way home I thought about how wonderful (and profitable) it would be to create a book on Explaining Hip Hop to Jewish Senior Citizens. You could then follow up with a book on Explaining Square Dancing to Jewish Senior Citizens or Explaining Hard Liquor to Jewish Senior Citizens.

Step 8: Your Health

Whenever I give out advice to people, I like to preface it with the fact that although I am not an official psychologist , I did take a course in psychology in high school, and I got an A in the class. Self actualization is a key term and concept that is studied by us psychologists. Since you probably did not take high school psychology, I ll try to keep this simple. Self actualization is the full realization of one s potential. So, if you are fat, ugly, and stupid, self actualization basically means that you accept yourself for who you are and will work very hard to reach your very limited self potential. Fortunately, most people are totally unaware of self actualization, and few strive to become it. This is good as there is no money to be made in a self actualized crowd. Letting people believe that they can be smarter, better looking with little to no effort, now that s where the money is. Your nose is too big; your penis is too small. But here s a pill that you can take that will change all that. And although none of this really works, isn t it wonderful that you are helping people to reach their better potential.

Step 9: For the Kids

My partner Michel is French, and it s so difficult to buy anything for him. He s so fussy. If I buy him a sweater, he wants it be in his size, not mine. If I buy him music, he wants it to be music he likes. But he likes opera. My kids, like all kids, love everything. You can take two sticks and put it in a box, and as long as you tell kids that they are magical sticks, they will love them. Hey, that s not a bad idea for a business! So while I would suggest shying away from selling anything to the French, kids are a great market. Forgot to make dinner? Put out a bag of Doritos. Kids will eat it. The French won t. And although most people hate spending money on their French, they love spending money on their kids.

Step 10: Stop the Madness!

From Baghdad to Brussels there are millions of people dying every day in religious strife and none of my tupperware tops go with the containers. It s crazy! But I am forced to buy a wide range of shapes and sizes as I never know what leftovers I ll have. The world we live in is insane, and there s lots of money to be made as a result. How can you stop all this madness? There s really nothing to do about all the people dying in religious strife, but I think we can improve tupperware. Could it be made of a more malleable plastic? Should Tupperware come in neon colors?

Step 11: Learning

I ve always had a hunger to learn. When I was eight, I memorized the names of all one hundred and seventy exits of the New Jersey Garden State Parkway. And it payed off well. About a month after learning this I was down in Florida visiting my grandmother when two of her friends (a husband and wife) were arguing whether the entrance for the New Jersey Turnpike is Exit 129 or 139 off of the Garden State Parkway. The husband was right (129), and paid me a dollar for my knowledge. I later found out that the wife would have paid me five to have lied. But it didn t matter. I realized that my knowledge could be profitable and quickly became a consultant to anyone needing to know anything about the right exit to get off on The Parkway. At the same time that I was learning all the exits on The Parkway, my sister memorized the exits of the Turnpike. But there were only sixteen of them, and she was never really able to capitalize on her knowledge. So make sure to learn something valuable. If you go to a coctail party, someone may ask you who was the 8th president of the United States (Martin Van Buren), but nobody ever asks who the 8th vice president of the United States, who by the way was also Martin Van Buren. I kid you not. There are no exits on the Garden State Parkway that make any reference to Martin Van Buren. I kid you not.

Step 12: Entertaining the Masses

According to Forbes, Jessica Simpson made more than 14 million dollars in 2005. That figure could have been double or even three times that amount if she actually had any talent. Tom Cruise made $67 million in the same year. His twin brother Rush Limbaugh made $30 million. If Tom Cruise can maintain his star status for the next one hundred years, he will have made over 6.7 billion dollars. It s not a trillion, but if he invests in the right infomericials, he can get pretty close. Entertain the masses, and don t worry if you have any talent. It s not stopping anyone else.

Now everything I have talked about above moves towards keeping your fish in a pond as a good idea and in an aquarium a bad one, but this is not always the case. Driving into London from the airport, head to the M1 motorway, which lies just two miles from the entranceway, and follow signposts for London. It's a short 40-minute drive into the centre from the airport and it takes less than half this time to reach the M25, the main London circular motorway. Recent road works around the airport and busy periods, particularly rush hours, mean that the journey can take as long as 1 hour into the city, however.
